WHERE in the world?

добре дошли в щастлива България

Where in the world is Happy Bulgaria?

Well, if I told you it was on the western side of the Black Sea, south of Romania, east of Serbia and Macedonia, and north of Greece and Turkey, you could find it easily on a map.  But, just in case you are still a little confused…

Bulgaria, Oh Bulgaria

     My aching feet salute thee.

Over cobblestones, by Roman ruins,

Onward, onward, there is much to see…

My trip lasted 12 days but there was  so much to see in such a short amount of time - from bustling cities like Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna, to the peaceful Rila Monastery and the Old Town of Nesebar.   I traveled through wine country, stopping to taste, of course, and onward through the Rose Valley of the south. Some tour members swam in the Black Sea at Nesebar and Varna, and others shopped in the crafts town of Veliko Tarnovo. We gazed out at the burial mounds of Thracian kings and drying sunflower fields, and shared home hosted lunches in a Roma village near Sofia and in the village of Glogovo.  Children danced and serenaded us at both an elementary and pre-school and folk dancers awed us with their energy.  We laughed with the children in the Roma village as they posed for pictures and listened to the beautiful voice of a teen  singing Hallelujah. The fascinating archaeological museums provided a glimpse to the past, while colorful frescoes covered the walls and ceilings in ancient churches.

To Move, to breathe, to fly, to float,

To gain all while you give,

To roam the roads of lands remote,

To travel is to live.
